Episode 3: The Golden Bird
As Zia and Mariko need air, Tao pleads Esteban to call forth the sun to power the Golden Condor out of the water. The girls and the Condor finally manage to escape. Esteban, Tao and Zia can then leave for the Izumo temple and find the mirror-shield.
On their way, they fly over Ambrosius's ship to warn Mendoza, Sancho and Pedro. These three, being Shimazu's prisoners, are tasked with clearing out the ship while Ambrosius tries to fix the engine. The Condor's arrival causes panic amongst the soldiers, which gives Ambrosius and the sailors an opportunity to hide in the forest. Meanwhile, the kids head to Izumo.
Soon after, Gaspard comes to Shimazu to tell him Mendoza lied, and is still looking for the Cities of Gold with the three kids.
As they run, Ambrosius scolds Mendoza for bringing him along, for he could have repaired the ship. Mendoza explains his plan of finding sanctuary on the Portuguese ship, when the soldiers find them. Ambrosius pretends to cause a distraction and leads the soldiers away, cutting off from the sailors. But while these three are free, Ambrosius surrenders and offers to give intel to lord Shimazu.
Come nightfall, the Golden Condor lands near the Izumo sanctuary, where the mirror-shield is kept. To evade the guards, the children decide to cross a river by the entrance. But Esteban falls in and is swept away by currents.
