At the temple, Esteban finally finds the thief's trail and follows him. He manages to take back the dragon without Dan Shi seeing him.
In the streets of Beijing, Zia and Zhu meet Mei Li who suggests they go to sleep at her uncle's house. There, the prince realizes the misery of his people and promises to remedy it when he becomes emperor.
While searching for Zia, Mendoza is suddenly kidnapped in the streets of Beijing and is thrown unconscious into a boat which apparently belongs to Zares. Sancho and Pedro eventually notice his disappearance.
